Vero Beach Computer Group, Inc. Board Meeting
                                                                                 February 22, 200

President Jean Grider brought the meeting to order at 5:35 with 10 members in attendance.
The minutes of the 1-25-2001 meeting were accepted as published after one correction. The total balance of 1-23-01 was $2383.45 not $2383.00.
Treasurer''s Report: Joan Pannenborg reported that as of 2-20-01 the total income was $1221.00, expenses were $401.21 with the final balance being $2583.24. She compared our budget with our actual income and expenses and we appear to be close within our budget. It''s difficult to budget on a monthly basis due to variations in income and expenses.
Membership Chairman Report: Art Paris reported there are 343 members with 285 mailings. Art offered to notify guests by e-mail informing them of the advantages of membership. The new membership application form was discussed and it was decided to have each SIG chairman print a few to be used by their group and later more will be printed in tablet form after our fiscal year has been established. Joan will pro-rate dues every 2 months in 2001.
Old Business: Art Paris investigated the Salvation Army facilities and they were found to be suitable except they are not normally open at night. We would need to be sure they have liability insurance. It was also suggested the Heritage Center be investigated. We would need eight 2-hour periods per month. Jess Hendelman will contact the city.
There was discussion about our computer, which has been used by other groups with detrimental results. We will ask the library not to allow others to use it.
The library computers will be functioning during the renovations and the library would like more volunteers. Our volunteers feel they are being used for scheduling rather than aiding users.
New Business: Sammy San Miguel suggested selling advertising in our newsletter to get additional income. We could have a business card page of supporters. He suggested forming a committee to investigate the subject including costs. Bud Greenlees will chair the committee with Sammy and Jack Pirozzolo serving on it.
It was felt the newsletter should have more pages to accommodate the events calendar, articles, and possibly the advertising.
Jess made a motion to establish a capital fund from surplus funds to be used to purchase equipment for programs. It was seconded by Sammy and passed. It was felt we are becoming a portable organization and we may need our own projector and possibly a laptop.
Saul Horne sent a letter proposing an amendment to the by-laws that reads:
A PAST PRESIDENT SHALL NOT BE REQUIRED TO PAY ANNUAL DUES, EITHER ON A ""SINGLE'' OR ON A ""COUPLE"" BASIS, SO LONG AS A CONTINUING ACTIVE INTEREST IS APPARENT.
Jean asked that it be brought up at the December Annual Meeting.
We continue to have problems with press releases to the Press Journal. Sammy had one in which the newspaper edited out most of the pertinent information. Sammy is also trying to get MAC classes in the adult education curriculum and they are attempting to find a teacher.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:15.
Respectfully submitted
Doris Hall, Secretary
