I usually try to put some helpful hints
into the newsletter, but I really have a problem. We have a few computers with
Windows 3.X on them, a few more with Windows 95, more with Windows 98, some
with Windows Me and now we have Windows XP to contend with. Currently about one
half of our active membership have
Mac's.
At the Barnes and Noble web site you can take
classes totally free. I have had PowerPoint 97 or 2000 for years and never used
it (wanted to, but didn't know how). I have also had Corel Presentations which
is the same type of program for even more years. These programs just sat on my
computer taking up space. Barnes and Noble sent me an e‑mail about a
class in PowerPoint and I am currently taking it and following along beautifully.
It is so well done, that I have no doubt I will be able to make some beautiful
PowerPoint and Presentations slide shows. The best part of this is, "It is for both Windows and
Mac's." Just go http://www. barnesandnoble.com/ and select,
"Online Courses." Below are two paragraphs from their site.
"Barnes
& Noble University is home to
the best and most varied FREE online education on
the Internet. Each month, over 50 courses are offered, each taught by an expert
in the field, often a best‑selling author. The courses cover everything
from technoloSy and computer skills to literature, business, and self‑help.
While the
courses are non‑accredited, the learning is real. Teachers talk to
students and students talk to each other on the Barnes & Noble University Message Boards. All of
the courses include primary texts (books on which the course is based); using
these books in conjunction with the lessons greatly enhances the learning
experience. "
Several of our members have taken courses and have
been pleased. I am well passed the retirement age, but I still feel I should
learn something new each day. Keep your mind active as well as your body.
Another site that has a lot of valuable information
is Mrs Wizrd's at http://mrswizard.com. One of our members, Doug Horton, told
me about it about two years ago and I get the six page newsletter each month,
just filled with useful information. Check it out.
There are so many good sites out there to learn more
about your computer and how to use it better. If you have one you would like to
share just send it to vbcgeditor@yahoo.com with a brief message telling why you
especially like it.

New Business:
There followed a discussion concerning the leaving of Vero Beach

left in a secure area. We do not want to buy insurance on the equipment because
it is very expensive.
Jack Pirozzolo reported that
we can rent a cage at Club at Vero by the month to house the equipment when it
is not in use. Jack
submitted a motion that we
rent the cage @$15.00 and it was seconded by Bud Greenlees. The motion was
passed unanimously.
It will be necessary to
obtain a lock to put on the cage. Jess Handelman made a motion that we obtain
the lock and Jack Pirozzolo
seconded the motion. It was
passed unanimously. Jack Pirozzolo said that he has a lock with a combination
that we could use.
The speaker for the November meeting will be "Sam" San
Miguel who will demonstrate how to make professional home
